For my second concentration piece, I decided to do a painting of my cereal, which I do eat everyday. Before starting I really wanted to do oil paint because I have not done that in a while but I realized that it may slow me down. I usually am very slow with oil paints. So I decided to do acrylic paints instead. After I painted the background and my bowl, I realized that painting cereal may not have been such a good idea. It was very difficult for me because I just could not get the value in the cereal nor could I make it look like some of the cereal had a shine of milk on it. I realized that I also needed to add some shadows under the cereal to give it that 3d effect. That actually helped out a lot. From there I just put in more cereal, which did take a long time. Eventually I painted in the spoon and put some value and shininess into it. I put some shadow under the spoon too and I think that really helped with making the spoon seem even more 3d. I even then decided to put in a newspaper, not knowing how I would put in the words without it looking really messy. That took a lot of time as well but after I finished the newspaper, there was not a lot left to finish, just some shadows and the mat on the left side. I really like looking at this piece from far away because it looks even more realistic from a distance. My favorite part from this piece is how the spoon turned out, I love the white at the bottom of the spoon, it makes it look like the milk is reflecting into the spoon. I am really proud of how the whole piece turned out, although some of the cereal could still use a little bit of work and the newspaper could be a bit better but overall I think this piece is really good.
Out of all my pieces, this is one of my favorites. Before I go any further, I am going to tell you what my concentration is. My concentration is everyday objects throughout time. When I say throughout time, I mean throughout the day. For instance, I have this piece of my glasses and my alarm clock, in another piece I could have cereal, and in another piece I could have a half eaten sandwich. Every piece is something I have or do everyday and they are all at different times of the day.
Ok so now you know my concentration, I decided to do a picture of my glasses and my alarm clock. I use both of these items everyday and they are the first things I usually see when I wake up and when I go to bed. I am really proud of how I put the gel pen in the glasses to make it pop even more. I also like how some parts of the alarm clock kind of pop out more than others. When you look at this piece from a far, you think it is a picture. I got that comment from my parents and my friends. I am really proud of how this turned out with all the highlights and shadows. If there is anything that I could fix, it would be the background of this piece, it does not really look as realistic as the rest of the objects. I would try to fix this by adding more shadows. Apart from that small issue, I think there is nothing else that I dislike about it. |
